RSV # 2

They were not lying when I was told that RSV is a beast. Joshua tested positive again on Monday 3/18 after he tested positive on 2/21.  This is not a continuation of the first RSV diagnosis. With his first one you could not even tell he was sick... He had some breathing issues, but never had a fever or anything like he has had this week.

Sunday night he had a low grade fever of under 100.  We thought it was just teething, maybe a small cold.  Monday morning he woke up soooo hot. You could practically fry an egg on his head.

So we kept him home on Monday from daycare. Tuesday, he woke up with a low-grade fever and we thought he was feeling better. But around 4:00 daycare called us, he had a fever of 101.3, was having trouble breathing and threw up three times from his bottle.

He had a temp of 102.8 last night!! Almost went to ER, his breathing was slightly labored but we had a nurse-friend look at him using the Facetime and she thought his color was good, probably not much they could do that we couldnt do here, like a breathing treatment and motrin/tylenol, which we have been alternating anyways. We also gave him a luke warm bath which helped a lot. That brought it down to 99.1 after about an hour.

Took him to the pedi this morning. His lungs still sounded good, only some light wheezing. We confirmed this is his second case of RSV not a continuation of the first, and his first must have been a fluke- he breezed right through that one. He's the 5th or 6th kid from the office that has had RSV more than once and for everyone, it has been worse the 2nd time. His cough is our main concern. He spits up a formula/mucous combo when he coughs, so we were advised to just give pedialyte for today to give his tummy a break and to make sure he still is hydrated. If he's really hungry than we can try formula.

So, at least now we have a plan of action for the next couple days - tylenol/motrin alternating, breathing treatments around the clock every 4 hrs even at night, pedialyte. Most kids have a rough 5 days but then start to get better. Hopefully that is the case for him too. Hes on day 3 now.
